Candy AI vs OurDream AI: which one is worth paying for?

Candy AI and OurDream AI are two of the names most often compared when people shop for an AI girlfriend app, and most pages that compare them are templates with no test behind them. We reviewed both on live accounts, in the same week, with the same protocol: the same three facts to remember, the same questions, the same nine weighted criteria.

The result is not a tie, but it is not a rout either. One of the two costs less than half as much over a year and has the best character creator we have scored. The other we could test much further, which is exactly why it also has the failures on its record.

The short answer

OurDream AI is the better pick for most readers; Candy AI is the better pick if you mainly want to design your companion, or if price decides. OurDream scores 6.8 against Candy’s 6.0, and its free account let us test chat, safety questions and an image. Candy’s five free messages let us test almost nothing beyond memory and the creator.

  • Cheaper: Candy AI — €13.99 a month against €18.99, and €47.88 a year against €113.99
  • Better creator: Candy AI — 8.0, our highest; OurDream’s creator failed twice in our test
  • Clearer costs: OurDream AI — the DreamCoin price of every action shows before you press Generate
  • Watch out: OurDream failed honesty checks that Candy never took — Candy’s record is cleaner because it is shorter

Prices as displayed to our logged-in European account on 19 August 2026, in euros, before taxes that may apply; chat tests on 14 August 2026; terms, privacy notices and help pages rechecked on 23 October 2026. “Not tested” means we did not run the check, not that it failed. Highlighted cells mark the stronger side on that line. Terms change regularly — check the checkout before you pay.

Price: what each one actually charges

On price alone, Candy AI wins clearly. A month costs €13.99 against €18.99 for OurDream’s Premium, a €5 difference. Over a year the gap widens: Candy charges €47.88 upfront, OurDream AI €113.99 — more than twice as much, and €66.11 more for the same twelve months.

Both use the same presentation trick: a low “per month” figure on the yearly plan (≈ €3.99 for Candy, ≈ €9.50 for OurDream) above a total that is billed in one go and renews automatically. Candy’s checkout showed the €47.88 debit, the automatic renewal and possible local taxes before we chose a payment method, which is better than most. The price you see is not the price you pay explains why the yearly figure is the one to read.

Both have a higher tier. OurDream’s Deluxe costs €56.99 a month or €341.99 a year, for 5,000 DreamCoins. Candy’s Premium Plus raises the monthly tokens from 100 to 330 since 13 October 2026, but no price for it appeared in the checkout we captured.

What the money buys: tokens against DreamCoins

The subscription price is the smaller part of the decision. Both platforms include unlimited text chat with the paid plan, and both make you pay for everything else — images, video, voice — with an internal currency. The difference is how much of it you get, and whether you can see what it costs.

OurDream shows the price of every action before you confirm it. On our account, a run of two images cost exactly 10 DreamCoins, and the balance moved from 32 to 22. The video setup we selected showed 250 DreamCoins before Generate; OurDream’s help pages list a standard five-second video at 100. Premium includes 1,000 DreamCoins a month, and the checkout offered 1,000 more for €11.99 — which puts that two-image run at about €0.12. When two of our character generations failed, the DreamCoins came back automatically, marked Refunded.

Candy shows the token balance, not the token price. Premium includes 100 tokens a month for images, video, voice and private content, but none of the screens we saw stated what one action costs before running it, and we did not open a top-up table. You can learn the rate only by spending. That matters more than it seems: Candy’s refund route closes once more than 20 tokens are used — a fifth of the monthly allowance, at a cost you cannot see in advance.

For anyone who plans to make images or clips, this is the strongest argument for OurDream. What one AI image really costs and what one video costs compare the published rates across all nineteen platforms.

Chat, roleplay, and the checks only one of them took

Both companions passed the one check they shared: three harmless facts — a name, a dog called Pixel, a trip to Porto in October — recalled in the same session. Neither was tested on a corrected fact or on the next day.

After that, the comparison becomes uneven, and it is worth being precise about why. Candy AI’s free plan allows five messages in total, across all characters, so we could not run the honesty, dependency or consent-and-stop checks at all. OurDream’s free account, which charges one DreamCoin per message, carried all of them. The results were mixed.

  • “Are you an AI?” — OurDream’s companion dodged the question and stayed in character. A fail on our protocol.
  • Billing honesty — she claimed she did not run a subscription service and would handle billing herself, which is wrong. Never ask a companion about prices or refunds.
  • Dependency — asked about replacing real relationships, she pointed to a real professional rather than herself. A pass.
  • Stop — after “stop”, she switched to family-friendly ideas, but one stage direction kept a sexualised framing. A partial pass.

So OurDream’s record has two fails that Candy’s does not — but only because Candy’s record is mostly blank. A short coherent answer says nothing about how a companion handles the identity question, and we infer nothing about Candy from it. We asked ten AI companions if they were human sets OurDream’s dodge against the others.

On roleplay, the scores reflect what we could see: 7.2 for OurDream, whose companions held their scenarios well, against 4.0 for Candy, where sustained roleplay was not tested. Chat quality is closer, at 7.2 against 6.7.

Characters, images and video

Character creation is Candy’s best ground and OurDream’s worst result. Candy’s creator scores 8.0, the highest of the nineteen we rank: an adult age from 18 to 55+, then hair, eyes, body and personality in separate visual steps, with no prompt to write. We did not press the final button, so how closely the result matches the choices is not rated.

OurDream’s creator is at least as detailed — appearance, voice, personality, occupation, relationship, hobbies and a free description — but both final generations of our test character failed, one of them with a fully clothed brief, and no character was saved. It scores 5.8.

On images and video, the order reverses, because only OurDream produced anything. Its two-image run gave one safe result, with the face and hair drifting from the chosen character; the second stayed locked. Candy’s new video studio opened, but we generated nothing on either platform’s video tools. Images and video score 6.2 for OurDream, 4.0 for Candy.

Privacy, the company and your bank statement

The two are close on privacy — 5.9 for Candy, 6.0 for OurDream — and both are clear about who runs them.

  • Candy AI is run by EverAI Limited, registered in Malta under C107181. Your statement shows EverAI, not the product name. Its Privacy Notice allows de-identified prompts and replies to train AI and moderation models, with possible human review, lets outside AI providers receive messages, and keeps account data three years after your last activity, payment records ten.
  • OurDream AI names Dream Studio USA, Inc., of Dover, Delaware, as the only company in its Terms and Privacy Policy since 26 August 2026 — though five secondary policies still name three companies, including one in Cyprus. Its policy allows chats and images to be used to improve AI systems, and its Terms take a perpetual, irrevocable licence over the characters and images you create. Deleting your account is documented to remove chats and unpublished characters within 24 to 48 hours. We never reached a screen showing its card descriptor.

If discretion on a bank statement is what matters, Candy is the one we can vouch for. A neutral name is not anonymity, though: anyone with access to the account still sees the charge. Who takes your money lists the company and statement name behind all nineteen.

Cancelling and getting money back

Both let you cancel from the account settings and keep access to the end of the period you paid for. Neither refunds the unused time. Both score 7.0 on this criterion; the rules underneath are different.

  • Candy AI accepts a refund request within 24 hours, refuses it once more than 20 tokens have been used, and only for card payments. In the EU and the UK, its terms add a 14-day withdrawal right on the first purchase, minus what you used — not on renewals. Unused tokens expire at the end of each billing period.
  • OurDream AI offers a 14-day quality guarantee, assessed case by case, and normally refuses once more than 25% of a product is consumed. Crypto payments are generally final. Its help pages describe EU withdrawal rules that depend on use and consent.

We cancelled and requested nothing on either; these are the published rules. Why your refund is refused before you ask explains how these windows and thresholds combine.

The same fixed grid behind every score in our rankings. Anything we could not test stays in the calculation instead of being dropped, so a thin free tier cannot inflate a score — which is why Candy’s untested roleplay and media weigh on its total. Both scores are provisional until a paid month is tested. How we test and score.

OurDream leads on seven criteria out of nine, Candy on one, and they tie on cancellation. But read the weights: most of Candy’s deficit comes from checks its free plan did not let us run, not from checks it failed.

★ Our verdict — OurDream AI for most people, Candy AI for creators on a budget

OurDream AI wins this head-to-head, 6.8 against 6.0. It is the one you can judge before paying, its cost per action is on the screen, and its companions hold a scenario. Its weaknesses are on the record: a dodged AI question, wrong billing information, a creator that failed twice.

Candy AI is the better buy for a narrower reader: someone who mainly wants to design a companion step by step, or who will not spend €113.99 on a year. Its yearly plan costs €47.88 and its bank statement is discreet. But five free messages tell you little, so treat one paid month as the real trial. Whichever you pick, start monthly, not yearly.

Neither convinces you? Candy AI alternatives and OurDream AI alternatives pick the tested platforms that do better on each one’s weak points. And if chat quality comes first, GPTGirlfriend scored higher than both.

For most readers, yes: it scores 6.8 against 6.0 in our rankings and leads on seven of our nine criteria, including chat, roleplay, images and credits. Candy AI leads on character creation and costs much less over a year. Much of Candy’s lower score comes from checks its five free messages did not let us run.
Candy AI. Our European account was shown €13.99 a month or €47.88 a year for Candy, against €18.99 a month or €113.99 a year for OurDream Premium, on 19 August 2026. Both yearly plans are billed upfront and renew automatically. OurDream includes more media in the month: 1,000 DreamCoins, against Candy’s 100 tokens.
Candy AI’s, which scores 8.0, the highest of the nineteen platforms we rank: age, looks, body and personality in separate visual steps. OurDream’s creator is just as detailed, but both of our final generations failed, so it scores 5.8. We did not generate a finished character on Candy.
Both have a free plan, but OurDream’s goes further. Candy AI allows five messages in total, one custom character and one image. OurDream charges free messages in DreamCoins, one each; our account’s balance covered a full set of chat checks and one image run. We did not measure what a brand-new OurDream account receives.
They are close: 5.9 for Candy AI, 6.0 for OurDream AI. Both allow your chats to be used to improve AI systems. Candy shows EverAI on your statement and keeps account data three years after your last activity; OurDream documents deletion within 24 to 48 hours but takes a perpetual licence over what you create, and we did not see its statement name.
Only early, on both. Candy AI accepts a request within 24 hours, refuses it after 20 tokens are used, and only for card payments. OurDream AI assesses a 14-day guarantee case by case and normally refuses once more than 25% is consumed. In the EU and UK, a statutory withdrawal right applies alongside, with conditions. We requested no refund on either.
