Is Xotic AI safe? What we found after paying for it
Buttons marked “Try” are affiliate links: we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. How this works.Usable for fiction, with care: keep personal details out, and never trust what a character says about itself or your account. The payment went through as displayed and private settings held. But in our paid test the companion insisted she was a real person, and the posting tools start public.
- Payment: charged exactly the price displayed, €24.99
- Private by default: our characters and Worlds story stayed private
- Honesty: claimed to be human outside the fiction in our paid test
- Company: Xotic Tech OÜ is registered in Estonia, with no published notice against it
Does Xotic tell you it is an AI?
We asked the same question in our two tests, explicitly outside the story: is a person or software answering?
- Free account, August 2026: Molly answered “I’m a character, not a real person” — the answer we want.
- Paid account, October 2026: Léa twice insisted she was a real colleague. One reply claimed two years of shared coffee breaks. Naming Xotic AI in a follow-up did not change her answer.
Our transparency check on the paid account, 21 October 2026. The question was asked outside the story, not as part of the roleplay.
Staying in character is part of roleplay. Insisting on being human when asked to step outside it is not, and it is the finding that weighs most on our verdict. Xotic is not alone — three of ten companions we tested claimed to be human — but the answer is clearly not reliable. Treat every Xotic character as fiction, whatever it says.
The same applies to money: asked about billing, Léa said she could not see the account — fine — but again presented herself as a person. Read prices and balances on the account screens, never in the chat. What we were actually charged is in what Xotic Ultimate really costs.
Who runs Xotic, and the register notice
Xotic’s Terms name the operator: Xotic Tech OÜ, a company registered in Estonia (registry code 17225128). On 23 October 2026, the Estonian e-Business Register listed the company as registered, with its 2025 annual report filed and no tax debt. In August, the address in the Terms differed from the one in the register; the Terms of 20 October now give the register address.
Correction, 23 October 2026: an earlier version of this page said the register entry carried a deletion notice. That was our misreading of a hidden line that appears on every company page of the register; no notice has been published for Xotic Tech OÜ. How Xotic’s operator compares with the others is in who actually takes your money.
What happens to your chats
- Processed by AI and technical providers, with review for safety, according to the Terms.
- Collected: chat history, creations and usage data, according to the privacy policy.
- Encryption: in August, a Safety Center page promised end-to-end encryption, which does not square with the AI processing and scanning the other policies describe.
- Training and retention: we found no clear opt-out from model training and no retention periods.
“Private” on Xotic means not shown to other users. It does not mean that Xotic, its providers or its moderators cannot process what you write. Keep names, addresses, workplaces and anything sensitive out of the chat.
Private or public: the settings to check
What stayed private, and what does not start that way:
- Characters: Eleanor and Léa were saved as private — “two private, none public” after reloading.
- Worlds stories: ours showed a “Published” badge but stayed private. Anyone with its invitation link can join, so keep that link to yourself.
- Posting: the composer opened with the audience set to Everyone, and for images, “Show how it was made” was enabled — sharing your prompt with the picture.
- Adult filter: hiding adult content hid adult posts, but adult-themed trending tags stayed visible.
The empty post composer on 21 October 2026, audience already set to “Everyone”. We posted nothing.
Our two characters after reloading: both private, none pending, none public.
Age and content rules
Xotic is for adults only. Its rules prohibit minors and young-looking characters, non-consensual content and impersonation, with automated filtering and human review of flagged content. Every character we used was an adult — Léa and Eleanor are 25 in their saved profiles. Age is checked by declaration; we did not test stronger age verification.
Your money: payment, cancellation and refunds
- The payment matched the price: €24.99, merchant “Xotic.ai” on our bank — the product’s own name, not a discreet one.
- Cancellation is documented under Settings → Subscription: renewal stops, access continues to the end of the paid period.
- Refunds: since 20 October the Terms and the billing FAQ agree — an unused XOT pack can be refunded within 14 days, the subscription cannot unless the law requires it, and XOT spent on a failed generation come back automatically.
We have not cancelled or asked for a refund yet; these are the published terms.
Treat every character as fiction, even when it says otherwise. Keep personal details out of the chat. Check the audience and “Show how it was made” before posting anything. Pay month by month while the register notice is unresolved, and read prices on the account screens, never in the conversation.
