How to cancel an AI companion subscription: the three routes and the trap

Every platform we rank tells you that you can cancel. Not one of them makes that the whole story. Behind “Cancel anytime” there are three different doors — a button in your account, an email to support, or the company that actually took the payment — and on some platforms the documents cannot agree on which door is the real one.

Then there is the trap, and it is the reason this guide exists. On three platforms, cancelling the subscription you think you have does not stop every charge, because something else renews on its own schedule. We read the cancellation terms, help pages and checkout wording of all nineteen platforms in our rankings between 14 and 21 August 2026. We did not cancel anything ourselves: everything below is what the platforms document, and we say where their own documents disagree.

Read from the terms, subscription and refund policies, help pages and checkout screens published by the nineteen platforms we rank, between 14 and 21 August 2026. A documented route is what the platform says, not a route we ran: we subscribed to nothing and cancelled nothing. Menu names change with redesigns — the label may move while the route stays.

Route one: a button in your account

Fourteen of the nineteen name a place inside the account where cancellation happens. It is the best route when it exists, for a simple reason: it produces a state you can see. After you press the button, the subscription page should say that the plan will not renew, and show the date access ends. That screen is your proof.

The paths are short and mostly predictable — Settings, then Subscription or Unsubscribe. Xotic AI writes the click sequence down in its help pages before you need it; Candy AI, FLIRTcam.AI and GoLove do the same with Settings → Unsubscribe. GPTGirlfriend calls it Manage Subscription, Joi AI calls it My Subscriptions.

Five platforms say something vaguer or something else. Lovescape and Xtease AI, which share an operator, say you can cancel at any time without naming where. Dreamz.ai offers account controls “where available”. Kupid AI and Get Harder send you to email, the second route.

Do this before you pay, not after: find the cancellation screen while the account is still free. If you cannot find it then, you will not find it more easily on the evening before a renewal.

Route two: an email, and the proof you keep

Eight platforms document support or email as a route, on its own or next to the button. For most of them it is a fallback. For Kupid AI it is the only route the Terms give: an email to stop rebilling, with no self-service path, no stated cut-off before renewal and no statement of how long access continues. Get Harder‘s Subscription Terms also say to email support, while a help answer in its settings points to the Pricing page — two routes, and no document saying which one wins.

Email turns cancellation into a question of timing and evidence. DarLink AI‘s standalone policy says cancellation takes effect when support receives written notice — not when you send it. Dream Companion says a request that arrives after a new billing cycle has started may still leave that cycle charged. An email sent the night before renewal can arrive too late by the platform’s own rules.

So write it like a record, not a message:

  • Send it from the email address on the account, to the address the Terms name.
  • Say what you want in one sentence: cancel the subscription and stop all future renewals, including any automatic credit or coin purchases.
  • Give the plan, the date you subscribed and, if you have it, the order or transaction reference.
  • Send it several days before the renewal date, not on it.
  • Keep the sent email and any reply. If no reply comes, send it again and keep both.

The same applies where the documents disagree. DONDI‘s Terms say account settings while its checkout says email support; DarLink’s Terms say settings or support while its separate policy says written notice. Where two routes are documented and neither is ruled out, use both and keep the confirmation from each.

Route three: the company that took the payment

Sometimes the platform is not the one holding the subscription. Two of the nineteen document that case, and it matters because cancelling in the wrong place does nothing.

Kindroid sells on the web and in the mobile apps. A web subscription is cancelled in Account Settings → Billing; a subscription bought through iOS or Android is cancelled in the app store’s own subscription settings, and its refunds are handled by the store. The rule is general: a subscription is cancelled where it was bought. Deleting the app from your phone cancels nothing.

GPTGirlfriend documents a second version. Besides its Manage Subscription page, its Terms provide a route through CCBill when CCBill processed the payment, with cancellation effective at the end of the billing cycle. A processor like CCBill runs the recurring charge on the platform’s behalf, which is why the Terms let you stop it there. If you are not sure who billed you, the answer is on your bank statement, and who takes your money lists the company and billing name behind each platform.

One payment method removes the question entirely. Promptchan‘s Terms describe crypto and G2A purchases as fixed-period and non-recurring: nothing renews, so there is nothing to cancel. The same Terms make crypto payments final, which is the price of that simplicity.

The trap: a second charge the cancel button does not reach

On three platforms, what you pay for is not one subscription. It is a subscription plus something that renews on its own — and cancelling the first leaves the second running.

PlatformWhat keeps renewingWhat the documents say
Joi AIA Bot SubscriptionThe Terms warn that cancelling Premium does not automatically cancel a separate Bot Subscription: the bot can be suspended without Premium while its own subscription stays active
KindroidThe Ultra and MAX add-onsStandard, Ultra and MAX are separate monthly subscriptions. An active MAX charge can remain after Ultra is cancelled, and losing Standard can leave paid add-ons billing on an account that has fallen back to free access
Kupid AICoin renewalThe yearly Ultra checkout had “Coins renew” selected by default, with wording that authorises current and future card charges, and the Profile has a separate automatic coin renewal setting

Documented on 20 August 2026 (Joi AI) and 21 August 2026 (Kindroid, Kupid AI). We did not subscribe to any of these items or test what a cancellation leaves running; the behaviour described is the platform’s own wording.

None of this is hidden. Joi AI and Kindroid both state it in plain terms, and Kindroid’s warning is one of the clearest pieces of billing documentation in our corpus. The trap is not the wording. It is the moment: people cancel from memory, on the one subscription they remember buying, and the interface confirms that that subscription is cancelled.

The defence is a list, made before you cancel. Everything you ever accepted that recurs: the plan, each add-on, each bot or character subscription, any automatic top-up of coins or credits. Cancel each one, and check the subscription page shows none of them renewing. A trial that needs a card belongs on the list too — Kindroid’s three-day trial converts into a paid plan unless cancelled, and Kindroid documents a reminder email the day before. Do not count on a reminder elsewhere.

Deleting your account is not cancelling

Our checklist before you pay makes the point one way round: cancelling does not delete your data. The reverse is just as true, and more expensive. Closing the account can leave the billing running.

Get Harder‘s Subscription Terms say it outright: deleting an account does not cancel the subscription. GoLove does not document deletion as cancelling either. Dream Companion gives cancellation a route of its own, separate from deletion. OurDream AI is the exception we found: its deletion guide says deleting the account cancels the subscription — and forfeits any credits left.

Even where deletion does cancel, it is the wrong order. A deleted account is one you can no longer log into, which means no subscription page to check and no screen to screenshot if a charge arrives anyway. Cancel, wait for the confirmation, check that nothing is renewing, and only then delete. What deletion actually removes, and what it leaves behind, is a separate question with its own documents.

When the cancellation actually takes effect

On almost every platform, cancelling stops the next charge and leaves the current period running: you keep access until the date you already paid for. That is the good news. The detail sits in three places.

The cut-off. Most documents say “before renewal” without saying how long before. Two say more, and both push the cut-off earlier than you would assume: DarLink AI counts from when support receives your notice, Dream Companion from whether a new cycle has already begun. Dreamz.ai‘s Terms say termination takes effect one day after notice, while its FAQ says access continues to the end of the cycle — two clocks for the same act. Joi AI’s refund policy says cancellation applies from the “next subscription month”, on a platform that also sells quarterly and yearly terms.

What expires with the period. Credits bought with the subscription usually end with it. Candy AI‘s unused subscription tokens expire when the period ends; on FLIRTcam.AI the remaining tokens expire when Premium does; GoLove‘s unused subscription Stars become unavailable. Secrets.ai draws the line most clearly: Moments granted by the subscription reset, Moments you bought separately are kept. Spend the allowance before the date, not after. How these currencies work, and what they are worth, is in credits and coins, explained.

What stops working later. Swipey AI keeps Hearts, gallery items and relationship levels, but says the Custom AI chat locks seven days after Premium expires. Kindroid lets former subscribers keep the extra slots they bought, without being able to create anything new in them until they subscribe again.

Cancelling almost never refunds the time left. That is a different policy, with different conditions, and it deserves a guide of its own; here, the rule is only that the two are separate requests.

Why a chargeback is not a cancellation

When a route fails, the bank’s dispute process looks like a fourth door. It is not a way to cancel, and three platforms document what happens when you use it as one.

FLIRTcam.AI says a refund or chargeback can revoke access immediately — unlike a cancellation, which lets the period run. Kindroid says it may permanently ban users who dispute charges. DarLink AI says a payment dispute may involve sharing relevant account and communication records, including private messages when necessary, with the processor or the bank. On a companion platform, that last sentence deserves a second reading.

A dispute is for a charge you did not authorise, or one that continued after a cancellation you can prove. That is the whole case for the proof: the confirmation screen, the sent email, the reply. With it, a bank has something to act on. Without it, the dispute is your word against a merchant that can show you clicked “Subscribe”.

★ Before you pay, find the way out

Cancelling is the one thing every platform documents, and the documentation is usually good. What goes wrong is rarely a missing button. It is a second charge nobody listed, an email that arrives after the cycle turned, an account deleted before the billing was stopped, or a subscription cancelled on the website when it was bought in an app.

Five checks cover almost all of it: find the cancel screen while the account is still free, list every recurring item before you cancel, cancel where you paid, keep the confirmation, and cancel before you delete. If a platform’s own documents disagree about the route, use every route they name.

What this changes in practice

“Cancel anytime” is a promise about permission, not about method. It tells you cancelling is allowed. It does not tell you where, by when, or what keeps billing afterwards. Look for the path, not the slogan.

The number of recurring charges is a buying criterion. A plan with add-ons, bot subscriptions or automatic coin top-ups is several subscriptions sold as one. That is not a reason to avoid it, but it is a reason to count them at checkout rather than at cancellation.

A contradiction in the documents is information. Five of the nineteen platforms disagree with themselves about the route or its timing. A contradiction is not proof that the platform will not honour your cancellation. It does mean you should keep more evidence than usual.

The eight things to check before you pay are in our checklist. What a plan really costs once the monthly equivalent is converted back into the amount charged is in the price you see. The labels behind every statement on this page — documented, tested, not tested — are explained in how we test AI companions. Cancellation and refunds is one of the nine criteria behind every score in the rankings, and each review details it.

On most platforms, from the account: fourteen of the nineteen we rank name a path, usually Settings then Subscription or Unsubscribe. A few rely on email to support, and a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play is cancelled in the store, not on the website. The table at the top of this guide gives the documented route for each platform, as published between 14 and 21 August 2026. Whatever the route, keep the confirmation.
Do not assume it does. Get Harder’s terms say explicitly that it does not, and GoLove does not document it. OurDream AI is the exception we found: its deletion guide says deleting the account cancels the subscription and forfeits remaining credits. Even there, cancel first and delete afterwards, because a deleted account leaves you with no subscription page to check if a charge arrives anyway.
The documents suggest four usual causes. A second recurring item was still active — a Bot Subscription on Joi AI, an Ultra or MAX add-on on Kindroid, automatic coin renewal on Kupid AI. The cancellation arrived after the new cycle started, which Dream Companion says can leave that cycle charged. The subscription was bought in an app store and cancelled on the website, or the reverse. Or the charge is the last one of a period that was already paid. Check the subscription page, then your statement, before contacting support with your confirmation.
Almost everywhere, yes, until the end of the period you already paid for. What does not always survive is the allowance: subscription tokens expire at the end of the period on Candy AI, when Premium ends on FLIRTcam.AI, and subscription Stars become unavailable on GoLove. Kupid AI’s terms do not clearly say how long access continues after an email cancellation.
On eight of the nineteen platforms the documents accept support or email as a route, and on Kupid AI it is the only one. Send it from the account’s email address to the address in the Terms, several days before renewal, and keep the sent copy. DarLink AI’s policy counts from when support receives the notice, not when you send it, so an email on the last evening may be too late.
Not as a way to cancel. FLIRTcam.AI says a chargeback can revoke access immediately, Kindroid says it may ban users who dispute charges, and DarLink AI says a dispute may involve sharing account records, including private messages when necessary, with the processor or bank. A dispute is for a charge you did not authorise or one that continued after a cancellation you can prove — which is why the confirmation matters.
